About Bobby Bahama Pools

Where are you located?

We're based in Putnam Valley, NY, in Putnam County. We don't have a storefront; we come to you. Our route covers all of Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess County.

Who shows up to my pool?

Bobby, or the crew he works with every day. No subcontractors, no rotating technicians. If you've booked with us before, you'll see the same faces.

What kinds of pools do you work on?

Inground and above-ground. Vinyl liner, gunite, and fiberglass. Saltwater and chlorine. If it holds water in a backyard, we service it.

What are your hours?

Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed Sunday. We work year-round; the services just change with the season.

Openings and Closings

How long does a pool opening take?

Most openings take two to three hours on site. The water usually needs a few days of circulation and chemistry before it's ready to swim, and we'll tell you when. Details on the pool opening page.

What if my pool is green when the cover comes off?

It happens, especially after a mild winter or a cover that leaked. We can handle it the same visit or schedule a dedicated deep clean. See pool vacuuming and deep cleaning.

Why do you blow out the lines at closing?

Water left in the plumbing freezes, expands, and cracks pipes and fittings underground where you can't see them. Blowing the lines out with air and plugging them is what prevents a spring repair bill. It's standard on every pool closing we do.

Do I need a professional closing for an above-ground pool?

Not always, but it's cheap insurance. Above-ground plumbing and pumps are just as vulnerable to freezing, and a torn winter cover lets a season of leaves into the pool. We close above-ground pools every fall.

Weekly Service and Cleaning

How often should a pool be serviced?

Weekly, from opening through closing. Chemistry drifts in days, not weeks, and a pool that's checked every seven days almost never turns green. Our weekly pool service includes a water test on every visit.

Do you offer bi-weekly service?

Yes, for pools with low use and good filtration. We'll be honest if your pool needs weekly to stay clean.

Do I need to be home for weekly service?

No. Most customers aren't. We need gate access and power to the equipment, and we leave a note after every visit so you know what we did.

Is water testing included or extra?

Testing is included. Every weekly visit includes a full water test, and we balance the water while we're there. The chemicals themselves are extra, not part of the weekly price.

Equipment, Liners, and Covers

My pump is loud. Does it need replacing?

Not necessarily. A loud pump is often a worn bearing or a seal, which is a repair, not a replacement. We diagnose on site and tell you which it is. See pool equipment repair.

How long does a vinyl pool liner last in New York?

Typically 8 to 12 years for an inground liner. Freeze-thaw winters and strong sun shorten that; good water chemistry and keeping the water level up over winter extend it. Wrinkles, fading, and water loss are the signs it's time. More on pool liner replacement.

What's the difference between a mesh and a solid winter cover?

Mesh lets water through and keeps debris out, so there's no pump needed and no standing water on top. Solid blocks everything, including sunlight, so the water underneath stays cleaner, but it needs a cover pump. We install both; see winter pool covers.

Do you install new pools?

We focus on service: openings, closings, weekly care, repairs, liners, and covers. We do install new equipment such as pumps, filters, heaters, and salt systems.

Service Area and Scheduling

How far in advance should I book an opening or closing?

Two to three weeks ahead in peak season (April and late September). Weekly service customers get first priority on both.

Which towns do you cover?

All of Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess County, with no travel fee. The full list is on the service areas page.
