About Serving Putnam County

Putnam County is small, hilly, and full of water. Lake Mahopac, Lake Carmel, Lake Gleneida, Oscawana Lake, Lake Peekskill, Putnam Lake, and Peach Lake each have their own community of homes, and a lot of those homes have a pool anyway, because a lake you can't always swim in isn't the same as a pool in the yard. That gives Putnam a pool mix you don't see elsewhere: dense above-ground and small inground pools on wooded lake lots in Putnam Valley, Kent, and Brewster, and large inground vinyl pools in the Mahopac and Carmel subdivisions built from the 1960s through the 1980s.

Those subdivision pools are now at the age where liners, pumps, and filters fail, and we do a lot of liner replacement and equipment work along Route 6 and Route 6N. The lake-lot pools have their own rhythm: heavy pollen at opening, heavy leaves at closing, and a lot of seasonal owners who need the schedule to work around their calendar. Cold Spring, Garrison, and Philipstown on the Hudson side have larger properties with heaters and safety covers, and we serve those too.

Because we're based in Putnam Valley, a repair call in Mahopac or Carmel is a short trip, not a two-day wait. That's the advantage of hiring the pool company that's already here.

Year-round

Pool Care Through the Putnam Seasons

Spring

Pool opening in Putnam County starts as soon as the nights stay above freezing, usually mid-April. Lake Mahopac and Carmel go early; the higher, colder lots in Kent and Putnam Valley go a week or two later. The pollen off the oaks and pines around the lakes is heavy, so we expect a second skim after most openings.

Summer

Weekly pool service in Putnam County is how pools here stay clear through July. Thunderstorms come over the Taconic and dump leaves and silt into lake-lot pools, and heat waves push chemistry out of range in days. Algae calls spike in late July around Lake Carmel and Oscawana; weekly testing is the fix.

Fall

Pool closing in Putnam County means leaves. The closings in Putnam Valley, Brewster, and Kent are the heaviest on the route, and we schedule most of them after the main drop in mid-October so the pool goes into winter clean. Winterization is done right every time; Putnam winters are cold enough to crack any line that wasn't blown out.

Winter

Off-season is for safety cover repairs, anchor and spring replacement, and planning liner and equipment work for spring. A winter quote on a new liner means the pool is ready the first warm weekend, not the last one.

Putnam County Pool Service FAQ

Are you really based in Putnam County?

Yes. Bobby Bahama Pools is based in Putnam Valley, NY. Carmel, Mahopac, Brewster, Kent, and Cold Spring are the shortest drives on our route.

Is there a travel fee anywhere in Putnam County?

No. Not in Putnam, and not in Westchester or Dutchess either. The price we quote for a Mahopac opening is the price.

Do you open pools in the Putnam County lake communities?

Yes. Lake Mahopac, Lake Carmel, Oscawana Lake, Lake Peekskill, and Putnam Lake are all on the spring route. Seasonal owners can book around their arrival date.

When should I close my pool in Putnam County?

Once water temperatures stay below 65 degrees, usually late September to mid-October. Brewster, Kent, and Putnam Valley get closed after the main leaf drop so the cover isn't holding a season of leaves.

Do you replace pool liners in Putnam County?

Yes. A lot of the inground vinyl pools in Mahopac and Carmel subdivisions are at liner age, and liner replacement is some of our most common work in the county.

Do you service above-ground pools in Putnam County?

Yes. Above-ground openings, closings, liners, and weekly service are a big part of what we do on the lake lots in Putnam Valley, Kent, and Brewster.

Where can I find pool service near me in Putnam County?

If you're in Putnam Valley, Carmel, Mahopac, Brewster, Kent, Patterson, Cold Spring, or Garrison, you're a short drive from our base. Send the form on this page with your town and Bobby calls back the same business day.
