Spring Openings for Inground and Above-Ground Pools

Opened right. Closed right. Cared for all season.

Our pool opening service in Putnam County, NY takes a pool from covered to swimmable: cover off and stored, equipment reassembled and started, water tested and balanced, and a first vacuum so you're not looking at a winter's worth of silt on the floor. We open pools across Putnam, Westchester, and Dutchess from mid-April through May. Call (914) 382-5972 to get on the spring list.

What's Included in a Pool Opening

A real opening is more than pulling the cover. Every opening we do includes:

Winter cover or safety cover removed, cleaned, folded, and stored where you want it
Winter plugs pulled, return fittings and skimmer baskets reinstalled
Pump, filter, and heater reassembled and started; salt cell reinstalled if you have one
Ladders, handrails, and diving board put back
A full water test and the first round of balancing chemicals and shock
An opening vacuum and brush of the floor and walls
A walk around the equipment pad for leaks, cracked fittings, or anything the winter got to

You get a quick rundown before we leave and a note on when the water will be ready to swim.

Inground and Above-Ground Openings

Inground openings in Putnam County usually mean a safety cover, a full equipment pad, and sometimes a heater or salt system to bring back online. Above-ground openings are simpler on the equipment side but just as easy to get wrong: a winter cover that's dumped carelessly puts a season of leaves straight into the water. We do both every spring, and the price reflects the work, not the pool type.

When to Open Your Pool in the Hudson Valley

Mid-April to mid-May is the window for most of Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess. Open too early and you're paying for chemicals to fight algae in warm, uncovered water that nobody's swimming in. Open after Memorial Day and you've lost weeks you already paid for. If you book in March, you get your pick of dates; by late April the calendar fills fast. Weekly service customers get priority.

Opening Add-Ons

Green pool at opening.

If the cover leaked or the winter was mild, the water may come off green. We can vacuum to waste and shock it the same visit. See pool vacuuming and deep cleaning.

Equipment that didn't survive winter.

A pump that won't prime or a cracked filter housing gets diagnosed on the spot, with a straight answer on repair versus replace. See pool equipment repair.

Liner check.

Spring is when liner problems show. We'll point out wrinkles, fading, or water loss before they become a mid-summer emergency.

Why us

Why Choose Bobby Bahama Pools for Pool Opening

10 years of Hudson Valley springs.

We know what a Putnam County winter does to a pool and we look for it.

Most openings roll into weekly service.

Most of our openings go straight into weekly pool service, so the pool stays the way we left it.

We closed it, so we know how to open it.

If we did your closing, we know exactly what's plugged, what's stored, and what to expect.

Pool Opening FAQ

Can I swim the same day you open the pool?

Usually not. The water needs 24 to 72 hours of circulation and chemistry to be safe and clear. We'll tell you when, based on what the water looked like coming off the cover.

Do you store the winter cover?

We fold and store it wherever you keep it: shed, garage, or under the deck. If it's torn, we'll tell you so you can plan a replacement before fall.

What if I don't know where the plugs and fittings are?

If we closed the pool, we know. If someone else did, we'll find them. Most are in the skimmer basket or a bucket near the equipment.

Is opening an above-ground pool cheaper?

Often, because there's less equipment. We quote by what's actually involved, so you'll know the price before we schedule.

Do you open pools in Westchester and Dutchess too?

Yes. Putnam Valley is home, but our spring route runs through all three counties with no travel fee.
