Vacuum-to-Waste for Green Pools, Algae, and Storm Debris
Opened right. Closed right. Cared for all season.
Pool vacuuming in Putnam County, NY from Bobby Bahama Pools is for the pool a weekly skim can't fix: green water, a thunderstorm's worth of leaves and silt, or a season of neglect. We vacuum to waste, so the mess goes straight out the drain line instead of through your filter, then shock and rebalance. One visit for most pools in Putnam, Westchester, and Dutchess. Call (914) 382-5972.
What Vacuum-to-Waste Means (and When You Need It)
A normal vacuum pulls debris through the filter. That's fine for a handful of leaves. It's useless for dead algae and fine silt, which clog a filter in minutes and get pushed right back into the pool. Vacuuming to waste sets the filter valve so everything the vacuum picks up goes out the backwash line and off the property. The pool loses some water in the process, which we refill, and the filter never sees the mess.
You need it when the floor is covered in dead algae after a shock, when a storm dumped fine dirt and pollen, when a cover failed over winter, or when the pool has been sitting for weeks. It's the right tool for the job, and the only one that works on a green pool.

Green Pool and Algae Cleanup
Most green pools in the Hudson Valley follow the same script: a heat wave, a missed week of chemicals, and a pool that went from cloudy to swamp in four days. The fix is the same every time. Brush everything, shock hard, let the algae die and drop, vacuum it to waste, clean the filter, and rebalance. Light green pools are usually swimmable within two to three days. Dark green pools can take a second visit. We'll tell you which one you have when we see it.
After the cleanup, the way to keep it blue is weekly pool service, which is where most of our deep-clean customers end up.

Storm and Heavy Debris Cleanup
Summer thunderstorms in Putnam and Westchester drop leaves, twigs, and a layer of silt that settles overnight. Fall in the lake communities is worse. We clear the surface, vacuum the floor to waste, empty and clean the baskets and filter, and shock the water to stop the debris from feeding an algae bloom. If a tree came down in the pool, say so when you call and we'll come with the right gear.

Pool Vacuuming FAQ
How long does a green pool take to clear?
Light green, two to three days after the visit. Dark green or black, usually a second visit and up to a week. We'll give you a realistic estimate when we see the water.
Will vacuuming to waste empty my pool?
No. A typical deep clean drops the water level two to six inches. We refill it during or after the visit.
Can you do a deep clean before my pool opening?
Yes, and it's often the best time. If the cover leaked over winter, we handle the cleanup as part of the pool opening or as a separate visit a few days before.
Do you clean above-ground pools that have gone green?
Yes. The process is the same; the equipment is smaller.
My pool is clear but the floor is dirty. Is that a deep clean?
That's usually a regular vacuum, which is part of weekly service. If the dirt is fine silt that clouds up when you brush it, that's a vacuum-to-waste job.
